EDDM stands for Every Door Direct Mail — a USPS program that lets businesses mail an oversized postcard to every home on a selected postal route, without needing names, addresses, or a mailing list.

Here's how it works: you select the neighborhoods you want to reach, print your postcard, bundle it according to USPS requirements, and drop it at the post office. USPS handles the rest — every household on that route gets your card in their mailbox.

With Business on a Hill's co-op model, you don't even handle the logistics. We coordinate the design, printing, bundling, and post office drop. You pick your ad size, pay for your space on the card, and show up in thousands of Las Vegas mailboxes on drop day.

The 9×12" oversized format is the largest standard EDDM piece — physically impossible to miss in a mailbox.

Solo direct mail means you're renting the whole postcard yourself — design, print, and postage costs are entirely on you. For 10,000 homes, that typically runs $5,000–$7,000 before you even think about design.

Co-op direct mail splits the card between multiple local businesses. You pay for your ad size, other businesses pay for theirs, and everyone shares the postage and printing cost. Your net price drops dramatically — a Jumbo Ad on a 10,000-home campaign runs $2,800 with us versus $5,000+ solo.

Here's the counterintuitive part: co-op cards often outperform solo cards. When recipients see multiple familiar local businesses on one card, they're more likely to keep it, put it on the fridge, and reference it later. A card from one business goes in the recycling faster than a card that has their dentist, their favorite restaurant, and the flooring company they've been meaning to call.

The only thing you give up is full creative control of the card layout. Your ad is yours — the rest of the card is shared.

EDDM performs best when your business has a geographic draw — meaning customers come to you, or you go to them, within a defined area. Restaurants, home services, gyms, salons, dental offices, and retail stores are natural fits.

All prices are one-time per drop and include everything — your share of printing, postage, bundling, and post office delivery. There are no hidden fees, no design charges from us, and no minimum contract.

For comparison, a solo EDDM campaign to 10,000 homes typically costs $4,500–$6,000 before design. Our co-op model gets you in front of the same homes for a fraction of that.

Your price covers your share of every cost involved in getting your ad into mailboxes:

Printing — professional full-color 9×12 postcard printing on quality stock.
Postage — USPS EDDM postage for every home on the route. Shared across all advertisers on the card.
Bundling — USPS requires postcards to be bundled in stacks of 50 with facing slips. We handle it.
Post office drop — we physically deliver the bundled cards to the post office and handle all the paperwork. For context: 10,000 cards on 16pt cardstock weighs several hundred pounds. We load them, haul them, and drop them ourselves. That's not just logistics — that's a workout.

Design coordination is included — we work with you to produce your ad. You supply the ingredients: your logo, any photos you want used, your offer or deal, and your contact info. We handle putting it together and will send you a proof before anything goes to print.

Facebook and Google catch people mid-scroll or mid-search. Attention is split, competition is fierce, and the moment you stop paying, you disappear. The average Facebook ad gets less than 2 seconds of attention before someone scrolls past.

Here's how to think about ad size:

Large Ad — wide landscape format. Great for home services, flooring, or any business that benefits from showing a "before/after" or a room photo.

When in doubt: go one size bigger than you think you need. The card is seen for 3–5 seconds before someone decides to keep it or toss it. More space = better chance of stopping the eye.

The best postcard ads follow one rule: a confused mind does nothing. Every element on your ad should serve one goal.

Lead with the offer, not the name. "20% off your first visit" stops the eye faster than your logo. Your name matters, but the offer is what makes someone pick up the phone.

One call to action. Phone number OR website. Not both unless they serve different purposes. Make it obvious what you want them to do.

Expiration date. Offers with deadlines outperform open-ended ones every time. "Valid through March 2026" is better than "limited time."

High contrast visuals. Your ad will be printed alongside other ads. Bold colors and clean typography help you stand out on the card.

Keep it simple. The card is doing the heavy lifting of getting in front of 10,000 people. Your ad just needs to make one person per thousand pick up the phone.

We expand based on demand. If enough businesses in a zip code express interest, that zip moves up the launch schedule.

Spring Valley sits west of the Strip and south of Summerlin — a dense, established residential market with over 23,000 homes. It's not tourist territory. These are Las Vegas residents with real spending habits and local loyalties.

Centennial Hills is in the northwest corner of Las Vegas — newer development, higher average household income, and a demographic profile that skews toward families and established professionals.

For local businesses, that translates to customers with disposable income and community investment. People who live in Centennial Hills tend to stay, shop locally, and refer their neighbors.

Direct mail works through frequency. Research from the Data & Marketing Association shows that most consumers need 3–5 exposures to a brand before taking action. One mailer plants the seed. The second makes it familiar. The third turns familiarity into response.

That said, one drop is never wasted. You'll learn what works — what offer generates calls, which part of the neighborhood responds — and use that to sharpen the next one.

Tracking direct mail is less precise than digital, but it's not guesswork either. Here are the most practical methods:

Ask every new customer. "How did you hear about us?" is the most reliable tracking method. Train your staff to ask it consistently.

Unique phone number. Set up a forwarding number that only appears on the postcard. Every call through that number is a direct attribution.

Unique URL or promo code. Create a landing page or discount code exclusive to the postcard. Anyone who uses it came from the card.

Watch the pattern. If you run a drop in March and calls spike in April, that's signal. Direct mail response typically peaks 2–4 weeks after delivery.

Be patient with the data. Direct mail builds brand recognition over time, which means some value doesn't show up immediately in measurable conversions.
